What do you think of the new planets NASA has recently discovered that may harbor life?

I want to know more about the nanoprobes they plan to send there, really tiny tech that will be propelled by light. That sounds intriguingly new and exciting.

Amusingly, it's actually not all that new an idea. Using photonic pressure as a propulsion assist has already been used in a small handful of NASA spacecraft. The solar sail concept, which you're referring to, is just scaling it up and possibly giving it an external assist. (Lasers shot into the sail, allowing it to accelerate further and not need to rely on sunlight which will be effectively nonexistent in interstellar space.) Really neat stuff.

If there is intelligent life on any of them, they sure as shit don't need our help.

Agreed!
Good. I hope they are friendlier than some of the folks around this place.馃槍

i wonder who is in charge of naming them
I think it's kind of cool actually

Genuinely intensely interested.

The life they're looking for is just the signatures of some elements required for it. I wish people would stop being so anthropocentric.
SW-User
I am not sure how it makes us anthropocentric to wonder if life exists elsewhere in the universe.
riverstoneF
Right, it doesn't. Not so much here, in this group, but elsewhere I see a lot of comments along the line of the assumption it's hominids on those planets.

Just theories and speculation

For now, yes.
