Do you think drug abuse would be considered a form of self harm?

Why or why not?
Maybe I should have used the word 'use' instead of abuse, lol

If I'm "abusing" drugs or any substance then of course I'm abusing/harming myself

To me it is. The key being abuse i.e. something that is endangering your physical, mental or emotional health then yes it is self harm
Serenitree · F
Yes, of course. The minute you insert the word abuse it is harm. If the person is abusing drugs and doing harm, it is definitely self harm.

Using drugs responsibly isn't, but ruining your life with them is self harm indeed.
SW-User
Yes.

Most people who take drugs are already aware of their effects and to then get themselves in that situation willingly is a form of self harm.

Of course it is. Most drugs are dangerous as it is let alone if there abused. So yea you are indeed harming your self if you abuse drugs, legal or illegal.
cycleman · 61-69, M
the drugs are a petty substance to imprison the defeated souls who pursue to feel good with themselves.

Drug laws are also an aspect of institutional racism as a means of perpetuating the inequitable distribution of economic and political power.
reubles · 41-45, M
yes, you could even go as far as saying it's a form of masochism, damaging your body for pleasure.
SW-User
yea, willingly committing a silent suicide
Spitbak · 56-60, M
😷Hell yeah, that one is a given taken into account the numerous amounts of death and destruction hard drugs have introduced to all creatures as well as humans!🤓

Abuse is, by definition, self harm, recreation is another matter.
SW-User
yes it is so is smoking and drinking. its just its become acceptable.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
I think that's too simplistic.
Fernie · F
how so? you abuse drugs...you're abusing your body and mind..no grey areas
Fernie · F
the drugs are not the point here...the point and subject is "abuse" of same

Of course. Any unnecessary action done to oneself likely to shorten life---drug abuse would qualify---is self-harm.
"Use" would've changed the question exponentially. Some people use life-saving drugs. Abuse always implies incorrect use, even of legal, prescription drugs.

@bijouxbroussard: That is true, guess I never thought of it that way.
