Why is the topic of feminism one of the most hated? >.>

SW-User
There are lots of reasons why, some less objective than others, but I'll try to summarize some of them briefly.

1) Self-righteousness. Although this is common to all -isms, with feminism it's commonly held that those who disagree do so because they hate women.
2) Indignation. There are feminists that are explicitly taken aback whenever they hear someone isn't a feminist or doesn't agree with them.
3) Condescension. Following the previous example, many feminists believe that people don't agree with them because they're ignorant or uneducated.
4) Gynocentricity. It's a movement that claims to be equality, but regularly ignores, denies, or completely misunderstands issues facing men.
5) Intellectual dishonesty. There are many feminist statistics, such as the wage gap or the campus rape epidemic, that are misrepresented in order to manipulate others into their cause.
6) Intellectual laziness. There's a number of theories postulated by the academic side of feminism, such as patriarchy theory and rape culture, that are widely accepted as axioms among those in the movement, but don't hold up to criticism against it. The majority of the criticism is ignored or rejected without debate.
7) Self-victimization. The biggest difference between feminist and non-feminist women is the idea of being a victim. Feminism actively repeats the narrative that women are victims time and again and it's become common for some feminists to become increasingly more outraged at increasingly petty things. You can look at man-spreading or free-the-nipple for example. There's also a refusal to acknowledge any kind of female advantages when discussions of privilege arise.
8 ) Villainizing males. Most feminists will say that they don't hate men, but it's a reoccurring theme among feminists to generalize men and blame them for any number of ills in society. They also will attempt to shut men out of debates by calling him names such as misogynist or telling him to check his privilege
9) Radicals. A problem with almost every ideology, but feminist ones are more likely to find strength and confidence in numbers.
10) Lack of self-criticism. A lot of these radicals say and do terrible things, but feminists very rarely ever speak out against them. Anytime anyone tries to hold feminism accountable for the role they played in facilitating the extremism, all you're likely to hear is "not all feminists are like that" and nothing more

Sorry if this is too long or too generalized. There's a lot of reasons and examples why, but I had to keep it brief for everyone's sake. Hopefully this can provide some insight for anyone interested
@HalfCactus: I suspect that what people call "modern" feminism has little to do with the cause I was involved in for decades. As I was telling the other fellow, not all feminists are white or even Westerners, but that's who gets the press and the criticism. Yes, I know, #10. I'm a feminist, I do love men (and have men who love me). I have been quite critical of those who who believe feminism is synonymous with female superiority, since it isn't. And as such I will continue to live my little life and fight the good fight. Signing off, now.

@bijouxbroussard: regardless of what feminism used to represent, the white/western version is the dominant viewpoint when people read or watch feminist articles, videos, websites, speeches, and protests. Just as republicans are no longer the party of Abraham Lincoln, and communism no longer the party of Karl Marx, neither is feminism any longer the movement of the suffragettes and equal rights advocates. That's why I can still support equality and listen to the issues facing women today without labeling myself a feminist
Several Republicans at least made the attempt to distance themselves from the racist and misogynistic rhetoric of the current president elect and his following while not abandoning the party. It is a fair analogy, but just as both BLM and the NAACP still exist, there are also still less "strident" organizations at work on behalf of women's rights.
Perhaps it's due to the unnecessary drama these modern "feminists" are causing.
most people equate feminism as strong-arming women to be superior than men - it scares most people - whereas in reality feminism is about gender equality but the fact that it has pro woman outlook is what prevents people from seeing that
Feminism isn't about man hating or female dominance. If people talk smack about men its because they're man haters, not feminists. The term itself hasn't been used correctly because people confuse it with hate against men, which is wrong. I'm just saying you're being triggered over a topic that doesn't even mean what you think it does. Feminism= equality not female dominance.

It's why I can vote and have a career and my own money and independence and not be someone's property. I guess some people resent that or something.

Because feminism these days just is just men hating.

Feminists just bring it up a lot and it seems to be an excuse for things and they are just being victims instead of doing something about it that is productive.
Because women are still so hated in most of the world, by men and sadly, by other women.
@StackedBoxes: Some do. They consider them inferior to their fathers, in any case. And yes, plenty of women see themselves as inferior to men, and resent other women not "knowing their place". In some parts of the world women are still treated very badly.

@bijouxbroussard: I agree with you ,in some parts of the world women are treated badly, but what feminism is doing these days it's not fighting for the rights of those women, they are focused on petty things.
@StackedBoxes: Not all feminists are white or even Westerners, for that matter. But that's who gets the most press and the most criticism.

Because people are convinced that feminism = man-hating, for some reason.
