Do you know someone (or know someone who knows someone) who committed a major crime?

1. I went to high school with this girl. We were acquaintances and hung out sometimes at the park together. She had a boyfriend who I met a few times. After high school I didn't really hang out with them, but they ended up getting pregnant and getting married. A couple months after the baby was born the boyfriend smothered the baby to death because things were "too hard to deal with". Was really shocked, because he always seemed like a nice guy and I never would have suspected he could do something like that. Just awful.
2. Way before I was born my mom had moved back to her home town and just started dating after having divorced my brother's biological father. She was dating this guy and he was being overly pushy in wanting to meet my brother and wanting to come inside my mom's house after only a couple of dates. My mom started getting weird vibes from him and decided to dump him (plus my father got into the picture at the time and she decided she wanted to date him over this guy). Years later she found an article in the newspaper with a picture of they guys face and the article was about him being convicted for killing a woman he was dating. She says it's scary to think of what could have happened if she had ignored her gut feeling and stayed with him.

Life changes us in many ways as we age and unfortunately for some, for the worst. Aside from people born mentally defective, these steps to the unthinkable are linked to their experiences. That doesn't excuse it by any means but it does give us reason to think about how a person can go from being that model student or cutie to committing heinous acts.

I'd always trust my gut feeling. Chances are you're picking up on something, even if you're not sure what, that doesn't add up in their behavior. It's when we ignore those feelings because we're desperate or giving the other person too much leeway that trouble occurs.
A friend of mine has a son who is in prison for attempted murder. I have known and interacted with the kid since he was 5 or 6. He was always a model child....

then as a young adult he discovered Meth.

I've known a lot of people who have committed major crimes. Too many. For one, I knew two separate cocaine kingpins. Lot of other crimes go along with that. And lots of other gang affiliated people.
