Why there is very few girls in Computer Science?

It's a bad thing.

Women are told from a young age that science and math are for boys. They're even graded more harshly, and so people who have a natural inclination are kind of pushed away from it. So there's a smaller talent pool to draw on.

And once women get into computer science, they tend to deal with a lot of sexism from the guys there (not all of course, but enough) who feel it's a field for men and that women cannot and should not be doing it. And then it remains a problem into the full careers.

I wasn't told that, and where are you from that girls were graded more harshly? That's messed up. My sister also is in computer sciences, but she didn't have problems. It was easy for her to find work. Studies in the US, at least, showed that women are preferred 2-1 in STEM.

@pato72: Not yet, but I'm studying to become a mechanical engineer. I just noticed very few females studying to become one or currently are. Even when I was in High School they had a program for future engineers, the only females there were me and one other.

I don't think it's a bad thing. Forcing people to do things they don't want to is bad. Fewer women pursue careers in computer sciences. It's not an issue until too few people in general do, and that's not the case.

Media arts and animation. I'm one of the few girls in all of my classes, and it's fine. To me, what isn't fine, is that I find out from my teachers who are currently working that I'll, along with other females, likely be hired just for being a girl because companies now are afraid of being called sexist. This, the actual sexism, is tiring. Meritocracy is what's best for individuals, the industry and society.

I think men miss competition, also females have very good observation abilities which really helps in such discipline. Maybe more than guys!
