Why there is very few girls in Computer Science?

It's a bad thing.
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
Women are told from a young age that science and math are for boys. They're even graded more harshly, and so people who have a natural inclination are kind of pushed away from it. So there's a smaller talent pool to draw on.

And once women get into computer science, they tend to deal with a lot of sexism from the guys there (not all of course, but enough) who feel it's a field for men and that women cannot and should not be doing it. And then it remains a problem into the full careers.

@TyphoidJerry: I am with you.

I wasn't told that, and where are you from that girls were graded more harshly? That's messed up. My sister also is in computer sciences, but she didn't have problems. It was easy for her to find work. Studies in the US, at least, showed that women are preferred 2-1 in STEM.

@JessicaK: Good for her.
They're probably not interested. I noticed that in Engineering, as well. I feel out of place. lol
@pato72: Not yet, but I'm studying to become a mechanical engineer. I just noticed very few females studying to become one or currently are. Even when I was in High School they had a program for future engineers, the only females there were me and one other.
@sighmeupforthat: If they are interested, why aren't they doing it? No one is stopping them. Not society, that is bullshit. I am doing just fine with my studies and I have no one preventing me. People prevent themselves. Stop it.

@MorbidCynic: Good for you, don't look back then and go on (y).

Men and women are born with different interests.
Jessica514 · 31-35, F
LOL, it is actually true. Men and women are different. There is no such thing as equality.

It's a relief to say that someone else knows this

Right back at you! Nice to see someone with a brain.

I don't think it's a bad thing. Forcing people to do things they don't want to is bad. Fewer women pursue careers in computer sciences. It's not an issue until too few people in general do, and that's not the case.
pato72 · 26-30, M
@JessicaK: So, what do you study?
SW-User
Media arts and animation. I'm one of the few girls in all of my classes, and it's fine. To me, what isn't fine, is that I find out from my teachers who are currently working that I'll, along with other females, likely be hired just for being a girl because companies now are afraid of being called sexist. This, the actual sexism, is tiring. Meritocracy is what's best for individuals, the industry and society.
pato72 · 26-30, M
Truly yes. I'm sure that this is going to change very soon. Only meritocracy determines who's better.
AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
Why's it bad?
pato72 · 26-30, M
I think men miss competition, also females have very good observation abilities which really helps in such discipline. Maybe more than guys!
SW-User
I dunno.
I wouldn't say it's bad though. Less distractions :D
pato72 · 26-30, M
@SomewhatGerman: You are a monster bro! :D
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
yeh, that's what all the assholes say.

you're the problem not the girl, you can't work around them then you're fired.
SW-User
@sighmeupforthat: Why are you always so triggered mate?
SW-User
There is no room for feelings.... only room for a 1 or a 0, 0 or 1,1 or 0 ...and so on and on ..🤔...girls rather therefore works in the physics, mathematics, chemistry and medicine. 😌
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
because the male populous don't want women to steal their jobs.
pato72 · 26-30, M
Maybe we need to rethink about that!
