A stranger of the opposite gender messages your inbox for personal information. What would you comfortably share?

@Mirage I had a young lady come up to me and asked me for my WhatsApp phone number and so when I turned her down I decided to present this to everyone so that I knew what the norms were. 😊

You do seem very careful and I am sure for good reason.

it's the Internet.. it's hard to trust anyone but the people who I've shared personal information with all turned out to be great..

@sweetpea: Isn't that so true. I have seen so may misunderstandings because you couldn't see the nonverbal cues that we take for granted in face to face communication!

@LucyFuhr There are people that take their communication "offline" of SW. There is also a lot of fraud that takes place offline.

Ultimately, we're all adults who know better...and we've all heard the horror stories too. If one chooses to open themselves up to that, they better be prepared for whatever comes of it; good or bad.

@LucyFuhr: I am talking about a stranger trying to start the relationship offline within the first few questions/comments. It usually ends up with that person trying to get money. It is a weary process so I cut it short.
I was just curious how people in this community of SimilarWorlds handle this request for personal information i.e. Social norms.

I just did first name and state and they were upset. It seemed reasonable.

That's what I share, first name and state. Everyone has different levels of privacy, as you can see by the replies here.

@Pfuzylogic: What seems logical to me is that you may share your real name and another way to be in touch after you have talked to the other person and known each other a bit, not before.
