Second option. I usually only give out hearts when it's for one of my questions unless they're being rude or nonsensical.

I heart all responses to questions I ask to acknowledge that I've read them and appreciate them answering. There's people on here that don't heart any answers and it makes you wonder if they even bothered reading them.
