Luckily in my country you can go topless all you want, if you want. But both men and women generally cover up unless they're at the beach.

I just had a debate with someone about this so I will post my points here. The reason why men are allowed to go topless (which is slightly invalid to a certain extent, in some countries, men have been known to be put in jail due to this or fined), is due to one thing.... their chests do not obtain two sexual organs. Hence why it's [b]known[/b] to be a sexual offence if you was to go around topless.

It's nothing to do with this invisible force called patriarchy holding women down. I mean, ok then, whip out your tits, and then complain and bitch and moan about how they get stared at five minutes later. Can men get their dicks out then as well if we are wanting to swing both ways?

BTW, there are some city's and states where the courts have made it legal for women to go topless where ever men are.

Yet other cultures function just fine with exposed breasts. Also, nude and topless beaches. What do you fear would happen should women be afforded the same right as men to be bare chested?

Is what you fear action on the part of others to violate those rights? If so that's never really been a logic or just reason to deny someone a right.

Mimi, just because it's legal doesn't mean you have to. As a man I can go topless most places but I don't because I am often uncomfortable without a shirt on (don't like the feel of sweaty skin against sweaty skin) but I have no problem being completely nude in certain circumstances (such as at my nudist resort)

I stated, they are a secondary sexual characteristic, which is indicative of a woman entering into sexual maturity. That's enough of a reason. And of course it's a cultural reason! In civilised society a majority of us don't run around naked...

I think it shouldn't be illegal. I wouldn't because I'm shy and have a lot of scars, but in places where it's acceptable for men to be topless I can't see what harm it would do.

Well, good for those other cultures. It's not part of the culture I belong to though. I don't particularly think that men should be walking around topless in public either if it comes to that... It's undignified.

One is a secondary characteristic, the other isn't, so there is a sexually connotation for a woman to have a bare chest, whereas there isn't for a man.
