Why is it that you can be critical of christianity until your dying breath, but [Spirituality & Religion]

Give the same criticism of Islam and you're bombarded by atheists who haven't bothered to read the Qur'an yelling "but christianity! Every part of the bible supports the KKK and they all want to kill gays!".
emptythrone · 31-35, M
because Christianity was used by the KKK but mass media wants to focus on Islam which has over a billion followers, so if they really wanted to end humanity they already would have by now
emptythrone · 31-35, M
let's be real here most "christians" aren't even really living their lifestyle and have racist leanings
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@emptythrone: Yes it was? Read history? The Islamic Ottomon conquest of Europe? The Islamic Turkish invasion? The Arab slave trade? The massive military expedition carried out by Muhammed and his descendants that conquered a hell of a lot of Asia and even Spain?
emptythrone · 31-35, M
And Christianity was used to keep slaves in line over here so if you want to talk about a violent way people carry out faith then let's start in our own house before we go inquiring about others okay?
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
Atheists say more "mean" things about the political christians than the muslims for the simple reason that the former are in control of the USGOV and the later are all but non-existant in the US. DeVoss is trump's Dept. Of Education pick and she wants to destroy the US school system so that kids get 'homeschooled' into christianity instead. Imagine if the DoEducation chair was a muslim Imam trying to get everyone into madrassa - we'd all be complaining about them instead.

TLDR: xtians have the power and keep trying to make everyone follow their religion, we don't like it. Muslims don't.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
This is why i see this defense of islam as really western superiority complexes disguised as tolerance. Are you not aware that the largest military campaign and slave trade was carried out by Islamic forces?
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
@pianoplayingsteve: "largest military campaign and slave trade" Sorry, what year are you talking about?
Thanos · 31-35, M
No religion is perfect they all have killed in name of god so let's not talk about it 🤓

All religions are based on antiquated myths. Stick to Darwinism.
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
Darwin was nearly 200 years ago. He was pre-car, pre-train and we have learned a ton since then.
UDontKnowMe · 80-89, M
But research since then has confirmed that science has a better answer than the religious groups.
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
@UDontKnowMe: I'd agree, just don't call it Darwinism

Can you be a little more specific. What exactly, which parts of Christianity, have you been criticizing, until your dying breath, and no one said anything, and which parts of Islam were you criticizing, when you got bombarded by Atheists?
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
Christianity: Just anything I seem to think is illogical for moral and scientific reasons. So, the ark story, original sin etc And when it comes to islam, i don't even have to criticize a single point of it, rather merely suggest that we scrutinize it as we'd scrutinize christianity, and the name calling starts
Northwest · M
@pianoplayingsteve: you do realize that Islam also believes in Noah's Arc, and all the funedemental principles of Christianity, right?

So then, can you be a little more specific?
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@Northwest: It has the Noah's Ark story, yes. But not the fundamental principle of Christianity. I've been specific, I criticize the scientific ramifications of old testament stories, such as Noah's Ark and the Garden of Eden, and the moral implications of original sin. And at the same time, I'd criticize whatever anti science claims I'd find in the Qur'an, such as Muhammed splitting the moon in two, and the moral implications of things such as death for apostacy. Point being, I scrutinize both of the religions, but it seems you can only disagree with christianity or you'll be a "way-cist islamophobe! :'("

Because it's so fashionable to do it these days, just look at how the Muslim "brotherhood" is helping the refugees of their own kind, by doing nothing. What's the use of all the Arab wealth they brag of, pathetic.
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
People don't have time or interest or get paid to 'be fashionable'.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@GoldenWorm: You seriously haven't seen this politically correct trend of young atheists virtue signalling how tolerant they are to a very nasty religion for PC brownie points?
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
@pianoplayingsteve: lol @ atheist virtue signalling. We do less of that than xtians do. atheists also tend to be all over the map since they aren't being herded by their religions.
Islam and Christianity are both a set of beliefs, a dogma. When you start questioning one, you should also question the other.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
I agree! I criticize christianity a lot, but as soon as I give the same scrutiny to islam it's "racist! But christians! All christians kill gays! etc
Atheists generally dislike the two ideologies. But indeed the two religions belong to the same branch, they are Abrahamic cults, which means they are admittedly patriarchal.

Religion is man made, of course every religion is going to have a different opinion about something.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
I agree, and we should have the freedom to criticize any and every idea. Yet why when one even mentions Islam in a bad light, do you suddenly get "but christianity, you racist! kkk = christianity!" I see no equal measure of insane double standards in any other circle.

@pianoplayingsteve: Right, and where are getting this evidence from...also your entire argument is out of whack. There's no order to it. You should have gone to debate club in high school.
@pianoplayingsteve: Amen!!

How so? One can criticise christianity without being a "racist christianophobe".
