Aren't babies born atheist? [Spirituality & Religion]

An atheist is a person who either actively disbelieves in god/gods or simply a person who lacks belief in god/gods.

Obviously babies do not disbelieve that god exists but they DO lack a belief in god.
So therefor they must be atheists, yes?

I don't think they qualify..🤔

@UnparalleledMonster: I believe in science man..the energy field that they can now measure.I went down that road because science always provides proof.see if one day science finally discovers the complete truth,which is not going to be a bearded man in the sky of course..you can call that,god,energy field,a black hole sparked all of it as a side effect or you can call it a kitchen cabinet.. it will not make a difference. Because that something exists with proof.You can call it the creator,since that's what it is.you can fit that into the definition of god. That's why I think atheism As a word or (dis)believe is completely useless.

@Traubi:
You think the aspect of the definition as described as "lack of belief" is useless because one day science might prove the existence of something that is the creator?
SW-User
@UnparalleledMonster: exactly.it does exists,or we wouldn't be here.
SW-User
Sure, but it is pretty meaningless then.

@KaliKali

So is being indoctrinated into a faith.
But we're not talking about whether or not it's meaningful

k
Well I don't think babies are aware of anything, I don't remember shit before the age of 4 years old. So I guess technically you're right. lol
@UnparalleledMonster: eh, I always had a sense of a higher power even at a young age without being brought up with religion but who knows...
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@MorbidCynic:

I never did
@UnparalleledMonster: I guess it depends on the baby then lol
SW-User
I guess. Technically.
SW-User
is it time to up the meds?...:)

@SkyMike:

Nope. Babies ARE stupid. In some ways at least.

But they don't have a belief in god. So they are by definition atheist.
SW-User
so they neither believe nor disbelieve.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@SkyMike:

...yes. But all that's required to be an atheist is that you lack belief, not that you disbelieve.
Do you understand the difference?
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
I can't claim to know what they believe, but it seems likely that whatever it is or isn't, it has a good chance of begin overwritten by the society they grow up in.
A baby's brain is blank.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@CuriousMind:
So do they have a belief in god or not?
Yes or no?
Neither believe or atheist. They are born with nothing in their brain. They learn as they grow up.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@CuriousMind:

You're trying to skip ahead.
Do babies have a belief in god, yes or no?

If you say "yes" the they are theist. If you say "no" (no matter what qualifier you add after that) then they are atheist because they lack a belief in god.

So, yes or no?

You don't think what is how it works?
SW-User
Babies don't know anything
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@chasingMonday

Exactly. Including god.
Therefore they are atheist
SW-User
But don't atheists choose to believe that?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@chasingMonday:

As i described in the original post, and atheist is either someone who disbelieves in the existence of gods or someone who simply lacks a belief in the existence of gods
johnny253 · 70-79, M
Technically, they would be non-theists
