Any other people out there who come from parents who were in the Communist Party?

I am a red diaper baby (both parents in the Communist Party). Anyone out there who grew up in a Communist Party or socialist family?

I was not one of the chosen ones; I never was involved in the CP in any way. My mother was a heavy player, a genuine red queen and very powerful in the Party. I was never told anything except that I was inferior to most of those around me. I was targeted for mistreatment of various kinds over the years.

A friend of mine grew up in the Soviet Union where his parents were very high up in the communist party. He went on to become a doctor and was sent abroad to convert the masses to communism. In Africa he ran into some Mennonite missionaries and he became a Christian. He then realized he couldn't go back to Russia so he became a refugee in Canada. He upgraded his credentials and practices medicine here.

Thank you. Interesting story. I am glad he is OK and able to practice his profession.

@peechykeen: There was a lot of carefully maintained secrecy for the higher up people, especially back then. Nowadays, people who are in the underground Party hide it but children of CP parents, like me, who were not members, are sometimes willing to talk about it.

The children selected for elite underground youth training were raised like red royalty but the rejects were treated differently for many reasons involving status and also Party security.
Why were you considered inferior?
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
Because I was not selected for special youth training as were most of the children I grew up with. This may have had to do with my father getting in trouble with the CP right before and after the time I was born. There were a number of reasons why I was considered a potential security risk although I knew little about it.
@greenmountaingal: Very curious that they would see a child as inferior or a security risk. sounds like you had a less than happy childhood. I'm sorry.

@TwiddlerOfThumbs: Thank you. For the details, you can read my story under the group heading: I Wan To Know The Truth Behind My Family's Lies and Secrets

I read the post because it had the word diaper in it.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
I was afraid of that; that's why I defined it.

Did ya get potatoes as gifts fo Christmas
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
Communists don't have Christmas, for the most part.
What country was this?
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
The USA. I grew up during the red scare of the 1950s. The CP went underground to a large degree due to the McCarran Act passed in 1950.
@greenmountaingal: OMG!!

Post WWII?

Yes. I was born in 1945. But I would appreciate any answers from anyone involved in a CP family at any point in history or who might know anyone like me.

@greenmountaingal: Would people be open about being involved in a CP family or was there a veil of secrecy? ... I am trying to think of my neighbors and people I work with. I don't think I know anyone. sorry.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@peachykeen: Old timers are often open. I don't know much about the newer CP.

Still a good slogan after all these years.
