I Have a Suggestion for Similar Worlds

I was with EP since 2009, ..

I would like to own my own group that is create the subject, and then be able to write my own stories while exluding others from adding their stories, yet still accept responses, comments, hearts, stars etc... and of course be able to delete any comments I deem inapropriate .. and I would add I was very tolerant of people who disagreed, misunderstood, or just felt like attacking me for some reason ..

Now, I don't want to seem like a snob, and I don't want to treat it like myspace or facebook or google where you set up your own environment ..

But to the point, I want people to know me, and I feel I need to maintain my own group, and corral all my stories in one place, rather than scattered around in various groups, in order to express coherence within my various stories. I think this could be added as an option, especially to give new users who come from other social networking sites to "Similar Worlds" a chance to establish their own home base, and then venture out from there ..

I liked EP, because it was much more simple, and so far the new interface looks very clean .. let's hope we keep it tidy ..

Please consider my suggestion and give it some thought, and I will be happy answer any questions ...

Hello Monique, thanks for your suggestion.
We will take note of this and consider your idea.

I do agree at this point with the response of @preeez.
The nature of EP and SW is to be able to find experiences and stories you share in common with others.

Group names are simply a way of categorizing various stories in a way most easily findable by those interested in the topic.

Once profiles are completed, your list of stories will act as your personal blog.
So those subscribed to you, your friends, will be able to get updates of your new posts, or can view them at any time from your profile.

@Moniqueinspring From Admin Andrew- Concerning the creation of new groups. We will be working on that as well.

However, since there are already about a Million groups to choose from, that were imported from EP, we think group creation is not most urgent.

Creation of groups also requires moderation, to make sure these new groups are correctly labeled for Maturity.

However we can't prevent people from posting in certain groups.

A while ago, I suggested to the EP team we have the ability to enter keywords before publishing our story .. for example, i wrote a story a while ago, called "I never went to a Prom," .. keywords I might use would be: Prom, dating, teenager, puberty, high school, disapointment, . . . and so on.

Viewers can then search for stories by keyword.

It would prudent to be able to edit edit your keyword list as well as your story, as I often find spelling and grammar errors that I notice after the fact.

This leads me to the fact when you finish your story, it is often hard to find a group that is appropriate for your story to fit. And yes, it does seem like there are millions of groups, and sometimes they fit and sometimes they don't. Now, you, at this point, can create your own group, and hope that it is not an oddity, and what is my biggest fear is that it gets out of control where other stories are added that veer from the original thought and purpose of the group.

If a member chooses to own or manage his own group, he or she might be tagged as the "group leader" or "mini moderator" .. and after naming the group write a short introduction on why you created it, such as "this group is for those poor unfortunate individuals who never attended a prom, due to one reason or another .. "

Owning your own group does not exclude you from joining other groups, and writing stories and offering comments ..

Plus, can we drop "I hate to eat Broccoli" a group name .. where "Brocolli Haters of the World Unite" You can add the "I" yourself.

(I actually like Brocolli)

They can always click on your profile to see all of the stories you've written in different groups. The whole point of EP/SW is to meet people with whom you have something in common.

@Jessa29 well how about having pages on your profile where you can write and no one else can. Things that don't necessarily fit into a group.

I can't even remember what the EP interface looked like now, say from 2009 when I joined to 2016 ? Either I have a bad memory or I only remember what I used, which wasn't much (I think).

But I am fairly sure that personal stories were listed on the owner's opening page, home page, main page, what ever splashed up first when your first logged in.

Also, the personal biography was at the left as I believe and I actually spent some time writing one, which I think worked. Read my About Me page and it 's exact copy from the EP version (except that my daughter is older now).

@Andrew There's still a big difference between a list of your stories and the personal blogs on experienceproject. The blogs were in your personal space and usually visited by people with a personal interest in the user while the stories were open to comments from any passer-by. Anyone could visit any blog, but they were clearly not meant as topics of (public) debate. This was clear because it was in the user's personal space. People dealt with that differently.

In 2009 we still had a blog on our profile at EP. It would be nice to have that again. Many made good use of that.

I endorse Monique's suggestion.
She was the best raconteur in EP and is the best I've seen in SW.
