Olympic breakdancing is something I didn't know about until just a couple days ago. I found it a little surreal to see a pair of Olympic gold medal competitors introduced as "Danny Dan" and "Phil Wizard". Seeing them swagger their way on stage and have a dance off was unlike anything I ever expected from the Olympics. I admit that some of their moves were pretty impressive. But overall, I seem to have very little eye for the finer points of competitive breakdancing.
However, like most people, I have enough of an eye to see that "Raygun" was... not great. Her performance was one of those things that's difficult to parody, because any "parody" would be strikingly similar to the original.
One of my teammates from high school running went on to run professionally. Twice now, she's come up short of qualifying for the Olympics. (One time she was kind of close; the other time not so much.) I find it weird to think that she can't claim to be an Olympian, but that Raygun can.
On the positive side for Olympic breakdancing, I'll say that both gold medal matches featured some great sportsmanship. It's (I daresay) a pretty niche competitive scene, and maybe that fosters a lot of mutual respect among the competitors.
