maybe newbs trying to get high
there's prolly half a dozen other bees watching from a distance and laughing, after they convinced this bunch this was the opium den
scissoring seems uniquely risky in this case
("Ow!" "Ow!" "Hey stahpit!" "WTF?" "I don't think this gonna work!")

@Miram I thought all Canadians were pathologically polite?
Miram · 31-35, F
@SnickersDOM Polite people get laid the most.

@SnickersDOM They are attracted to sweetness and sweet desserts yes. You can feed some species that but the honey ends up being poor quality.
The best honey comes from bees in the forests. Just perfect color, taste and consistency.

@SnickersDOM but it sucks though and you shouldn't be doing it even if well prepared as food

@Miram oh I was thinking of feeding this starving lot inside the poppy, they must be exhausted by now, eh?
It seems like it would be wrong to collect honey from wild honey bees, just leave that for the domesticated hives (ideally in their native range, not competing with native bumblebees on other continents)

@SnickersDOM no!!! You put boxes in the wild.and take care of them. It is legal here.
SnickersDOM · M
@Miram oh duh, I wasn't thinking of transporting the boxes to the forests
what were you referring to / meaning here (sorry, I'm feeling a bit daft for moment)?

@SnickersDOM maple syrup..it can kill some species. They die from such food.
As to the wild bees, we raise them here. You provide the wild bees with a home and keep minimal interference. And only harvest little honey once year because you need to keep their supply high. It is the most expensive honey here.
Even my domesticated bees aren't really domesticated. I don't interfere much in their lives and they are dangerous. I have only five boxes now but I used to have much more. In some areas, it is impossible to not get attacked. They all congregate there and get so moody and territorial.

@SnickersDOM They attacked me last year
Let me find where.

@Miram ohh, I wouldn't dream of feeding maple syrup to bees, for one thing that seems like feeding them honey, which if you already had honey, why would you do that ... I only think of bees ever foraging on a variety of flowers at all, and the different types of flowers then leading to "varietal" honeys
I'm glad you help the wild bees in a low-intervenionist way, and leave enough of they honey for its own natural purpose ... it doesn't matter if it makes it more expensive, I don't have to have honey and can live without it, as long as nature is in balance
the bees you have near you, how similar are these to the ones that people attempted to cross-breed (In Brazil I think?) which unintentionally led to the so-called "killer bees" ("Africanized" honey bees) that now aflict the US southwest? are yours the same species that were used in those experiments, or a slightly less aggressive species that doesn't sting en masse?
if it's the same species, please be very careful around them, the honey isn't worth it 🤗

@SnickersDOM This is when they bit me with their little butts 🤣
I am used to getting bitten by now so I am not really allergic. But yes, they might one day kick my ass completely. I know I can't defeat them and know to slowly leave like a coward not to piss them off 👀

@SnickersDOM I don't know the species names but yes, they do eventually attack you in mass if you don't leave when they are moody.
SnickersDOM · M
@Miram oh dear, I'm glad you are able to laugh about it, do think repeated stings over the years help you build up a tolerance, or you just never had any allergy at all? I'm also glad you know when to leave, please stay careful with them if it's a fine line to navigate to prevent serious injury to you 🤗
I see now the subspecies used for the Brazilian experiment was from South Africa, thank goodness it's not yours

@Miram I love the sound of that wind too, but are you ever afected by or anywhere close to any seasonal wildfires? I used to take enjoying strong breezes for granted as a benign force of nature, until realizing how much they exacerbate fires in regions prone to wildfires
Miram · 31-35, F
@SnickersDOM natural antibodies, yes but it doesn't really work that way for everyone. For most people more exposure and then sudden lack of it can lead to developing more sever symptoms and even allergy. It is not a predictable thing to engage in.
Yes, unfortunately but most of these fires happen because of humans being nasty and starting them to grill or just to harvest coal. The speed of its spread is due to global climate change but the initial cause is always some idiot somewhere.

@Miram to harvest coal? AYFKM? 🤦🏻♂ they should save that for less dry seasons / winter if they really truly need the coal, damn
