Any rock climbers?

I'm watching a national geographic rerun of some guy climbing a rock face in Yosemite. He's free climbing and yet there are support ropes hanging down from above him. How the hell did those ropes get there?

@Justafantasy Not this one. He started at the bottom. It's 3000 ft
@Gibbon around my part of the world when they solo they just go up, put the ropes down and then hike back around

@Justafantasy Well after he reached a point about 1/4 the way there's no more evidence of ropes. The cameras are on the ground and what I'm assuming is a drone.
@Gibbon is the fellows name Alex?

@Justafantasy That's the guy
@Gibbon watched him on one of his first ascent's in Yosemite at a film festival a few years ago. Some times it's not the first ascent of a face but if a particular part of the face

@Justafantasy Yeah that's probably it. I know once he got passed an area called the boulder problem everyone on the crew was relieved.
@Gibbon he's done a few climbing films. One with one of his cave climbs he literally hangs on by his knuckle. Sticks it in a crack and that's all that holds him

@Justafantasy Alex Honnold! Or Marc Andre Leclaire
@Lowkey Alex Honnold sounds right. He went to Banff for the film festival second year he was featured in it. Believe north face sponsored him and the event
