Who do you think will win the bidding?
It’s likely to be in the region of $1 Billion per year.

Why does it matter to any of us?

@RedBaron I was just asking because it’s a question test is not politically motivated for a change. Also if you are a fan of college sports it could be of interest.

@justanothername My college teams are not on TV, except for NCAA final four in lacrosse and frozen four in ice hockey. Once every 6-8 years, they score some upsets in March Madness and perhaps make it to the Sweet 16. They're not in it for money to support the university.

@RedBaron I think that could be said about a lot of college sports. You participate for the team building and social aspects rather than because you want to make a career out of being a “professional” lacrosse player.

The purpose of the bidding war between the major players is about a land grab as cable tv services make way for streaming services and all in one packages at affordable prices. Ultimately the company with the most money and resources will probably end up with the lions share of streamed/ondemand tv and sports.programs.

On red of the benefits of having big tech bidding is that the $350 million a year ticket will climb dramatically and the flow on should be able to filter down to the smaller teams.

Fox won the bidding for the A-tier rights. CBS and NBC will share the B-tier. Whichever streaming service "wins" will get Minnesota-Rutgers type scraps.

@DCarey Interesting to know. Thanks for sharing.
