It's pointless pandering.
The NBA has significantly dropped in viewership over this kind of nonsense. They are doing nothing but pandering to am echo chamber.
They aren't sacrificing anything. They still get paid and they get a few nights off.... So strong of them.
What's it really change? No one is watching anyway, so what they'll not watch another game?

When they suspend the playoffs, that risks advertisers and views, and it makes very very rich and powerful team owners panic and call governors to fix the problem NOW.
