Good sportsmanship, should you have to shake you hated rivals hand, why or why not?

In sports there are some very heated rivalries. Where one team does not like the other. I will give a few examples Chicago vs Green Bay, Michigan vs Ohio state, The Red Sox vs the Yankees and many more. Should you have to act like you respect your rivals after the game? You hate them all year but after an intense competition you have to be a good sportsman show good sportsmanship why?

@FoleysFollies I would like you to understand that whether you win or lose should not determine how you behave afterwards. I agree with you 100%. I do not agree that that applies to your rival. The team that thinks they are better than you. People who make a living talking trash to you about you and what you stand for. They are 2 baseball teams in Chicago the White Sox and the other team the Cubs. Most years there is a fight in that game. Often things are thrown onto the field as the other team is exiting. I just wanted to get another perspective thank you.
