It's a free country, and being White I don't have anywhere near the experience the black athletes do with racism or injustice, so it doesn't bother me. Then again, the worship of a piece of cloth seems like an odd combination of religion and superstition to me to begin with. BUT, as you say, IF the athlete is on a national team and representing this country, then they should either stand or, if the want to protest, then protest by refusing to be on the team.
