How does American football work?
Why do the players always stop and start during the game? I'm from Australia btw so I have no idea.

because downs, they get a number of chances to get a certain yardage before turnover

@summerlove turnover is the other team's chance with the ball, if they defend well and stop their opponent from gaining yards then the ball is theirs
