Is Hell a real place? [Spirituality & Religion]

I grew up going to a southern Baptist church where we were taught that Hell was very real but I read somewhere Hell was a concept the Romans came up with to scare people. I have also read that in the bible nothing over eternally suffering was mentioned originally. So is Hell real or not?

Hell is a story like any other story. Like the story of your life, or of mine.
What's real? We could talk about that forever.
But the traditional depiction of hell...fire and brimstone etc...I would say is a particularly fictitious location.
