Do you think there would be nearly as many religious people if: [Spirituality & Religion]

They weren't born into believing what their parents believe and teach them? If they were just free to grow up and see and believe what they want for themselves with their own unbiased unbrainwashed minds?

Who knows? People believe what they believe. Not everybody has the same beliefs as their parents.

@Bottomschmackenloudenboomer: but my point is most kids who are bought up in a religious household who have those believes pushed into them at a young age will probably grow up believing that stuff because it's all how they've been bought up. Mum says "don't touch the oven it's hot"... kid learns not to touch the oven. Dad says "don't cross the road without looking", kid learns they might get ran over. Parents say "god is real ____ is a sin", kid learns god is real and they must adhere to the "rules" of a bible

Remember that even babies have little minds of their own. There is no telling what age children will be when they start rejecting what their parents told them. Babies are not empty vessels for adults to fill with whatever they like.

@Pineapple: That's what school is for - to counteract that
@TheSaint: I think it's a combination of both lol

@TheSaint: I politely disagree for several reasons:
1. I do not believe in censorship
2. I believe in freedom of religion
3. Just because we teach something doesn't mean we agree with it
4. I believe in teaching history culture and current events - all of which are intertwined with religion
5. I believe in teaching students how to reason logically and understand right from wrong as well as respect someone's right to disagree with them.
6. By your logic we shouldn't teach about the Holocaust either.
7. It is inappropriate to say something is evil just because it is used wrongly. If a four-year-old throws scissors, that does not mean we hate scissors. The vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists if that is what you are referring to. Over 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide - the world wouldn't exist if there are that many terrorists. And the Bible teaches to LOVE your neighbor - kind of its central point. Not fully followed in modern-day churches but still the central point
