@Celine: It really is amazing...he obviously was the perfect cult leader for the time. Being in the right place at the right time. I guess like any Religious leader or Prophet. I don't think Christianity has been entirely destructive. It has a good basis of belief around Charity and Good Works.

@okaybut: Jesus could have been a name adopted by several cult leaders. It's been suggested that the stories of Robin Hood are based on the actions of various outlaws (or freedom fighters) of the time. Something similar could apply in the case of "Jesus".

@suzie1960: Definitely. Especially the bundling together of various myths to create Christianity.

@okaybut: Good point. Christianity is just a collection of bits and pieces of other religions that often contradtict each other. That makes it likely that Jesus is an amalgamation of figures from those other religions.
