FAITH....proof has nothing to do with it. You have it or you don't ...simplest answer:)
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43: Faith isn't good evidence of anything. No matter how much faith you have that the Earth is flat, it remains an oblate spheroid.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@suzie1960: lol faith isn't evidence...that is why it's called faith. I thought that would be simply obvious.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43: It's not obvious to those christians who think that believing their god exists is absolute proof that it does.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@suzie1960: it shouldn't matter to you whether they believe or not yes?
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43: It does when they try to force their delusions down my throat and attempt to corrupt my children.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@suzie1960: they are entitled to their thoughts as you are yours. Some people have issues that have nothing to do with a belief system. It's called the human condition.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43: They're entitled to their thoughts, they're NOT entitled to corrupt children. Do you think they'd be happy for their children to be taught Satanism and encouraged to become Satanists?
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@suzie1960: you paint a picture of Christians circling your house and screaming scripture in your sobbing children's ears lol. I doubt that has ever happened. We all have to live in this world with differing viewpoints. If you don't believe then tell your children why you don't believe. However that doesn't mean that they aren't allowed to speak what they believe. You can't silence people just because you don't agree with them.:)
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43: So you would be happy for Satanists to attempt to convert your children would you? After all, you can't silence them just because you don't agree with them.

Although your inference is a bit extreme, we do get bombarded with christian literature from local churches. When I was at school the RE teacher attempted to beat christianity into us. Along with several other parents, I removed my children from RE lessons and the christian assembly. I only wish my parents had done the same for me.

My children are adults now but, when they were very young I had to protect them from christian propaganda. Now they have to protect their children the same way.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
You know what you do with the literature? Throw it away. If I get something from Scientology or Jehovah's witness I smirk and throw it away. I don't get up in arms as you seem to and declare a foul plot is afoot. To say you are "protecting" them is also rather extreme. IF a satanist approached me (though unlikely) I would say no thanks and move on. If you stop seeing it as a conspiracy you might get less emotional about it...that is just my opinion.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43: I do throw it away and when a christian approaches me I first say no thanks and attempt to move on. That's not always possible though so sometimes I have to repeat myself more forcibly.

Now, I didn't ask what you would do if a Satanist approached you with a view to converting you. I had inferred, from what you said, that you would be happy for a Satanist to attempt to convert your children without your knowledge, in the same way christians attempt to indoctrinate children. I wanted to know if my understanding of your position was correct. Your reply suggests it is.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@suzie1960: It's not about feelings is what I am saying. A child isn't going to fall apart if he or she hears "Jesus loves you" or "Satan loves you." One is going to agree with one or the other, but at the end of the day the parents point of view will have the most pull.
Some Christians are aholes. Some atheists are aholes. I dislike aholes equally. I don't base it on their belief systems.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43: The problem is, christians don't stop at "Jesus loves you". They go on with "You and your parents will burn in Hell if you don't join us" and similar threats. They also induce children to disobey their parents if they're not christians.

I accept that's not all christians but that type of prozelytizing is fundamental to christianity.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
If there are Christians going that far and you happen to be there then you have every right to tell them to shut up. No one has a right to be bullied with information that doesn't interest them. Aside from that...it's mostly the fundamentalists who believe in a hell of eternity with red deviled Satan and suffering. It's just not believable and I don't think it's the norm for all. Fundamentalists annoy me too :)
