Yes I do, they are great friends. There's not as much of a difference as you may think.

😟No...and I don't judge them by their ethnic backgrounds or beliefs! They're people like anyone else! It's what a person DOES that get's my attention! Talk is cheap and should be free but actions will ALWAYS speak louder than the word! Most people just want peace and prosperity! Unfortunately, the ones with the power will not allow it!

well said, the ones in power won't allow it....

Yes I know quite a few and am friends with an imam. We don't agree theologically but we can get past that. His daughter became a Christian in my church. I suppose it is a way he remains connected with her. He is a dad after all.

I know a Muslim girl from way back in 6th grade. She used to sit with me at lunch in middle school everyday. We became great friends. I respect her and her beliefs 100%. she's only human.

We live in a city with many different cultures. I had a house cleaning business for a lot of years. Several of my clients were Muslims. They were just people, like you and me. Except that they insisted on giving me lunch when I was there. The food was good, but I later realized that, because it was every Muslim client who fed me, it probably had something to do with making sure that the wrong kind of food wasn't being eaten in their home.

For three years my daughter had a very close friend who was Muslim, and she and her family were really nice people. My grandson and their daughter started kindergarten together and adored each other.

I have a lot of neighbours in my apartment building who are Muslim. Not a terrorist among them. At least, if there is one, he's not made a move in the nearly eight years I've lived here, or the twenty years before that, that I worked here as a cleaning lady.

It might have been making sure you didn't bring pork into the home but mostly it's a matter of hospitality once you set foot into their home even as a worker. I heard similar stories when I worked at the university, the student maintenance guys would get called out for some minor repair and if the family had food ready to eat or were eating they insisted that the maintenance guy sit and eat with them....sometimes they'd come back to the building and talk about it and say "I don't know what I was eating but it was good." Hospitality in those instances.
Serenitree · F
@cherokeepatti: okay yeah. Hospitality makes sense. I had a few clients who weren't Muslim, who also offered lunch, but didn't insist if I said I brought my own, which is why I thought it might be the possibility of me bringing pork into the house.

@Serenitree: That could have been but seriously they are hospitable people when you enter their homes, it is a duty for them to feed you.

I had a friend irl

Yes I have a few.
I've never cared to have more than civil business type relations with them. I might have a Muslim friend online that I highly admire, and not even know it. I've always preferred to avoid the religion and it's adherents as much as I possibly can. Especially after I started reading some of the stuff in the Quran and Hadiths that made it very clear to me why I find their belief system utterly toxic. I personally wish there could a specific part of the world where Islam could be separated and isolated from all other belief systems. (Of course now I wish there could be the same situation for these people they call "social justice warriors"....so I guess I'm just Archie Bunker on steroids to some extent.)
" Muslim extremists want to kill non Muslims. Moderate Muslims want Muslim extremists to kill non Muslims." The sooner everyone realizes this, the better off the world will be.

They are ordinary people..but when it comes to their beliefs and traditions..some of them are aggressive or defensive.. I think it depends on the culture they are brought up in
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
culture can be a strong influence
Many, and some of 'em are my closest friends. I love every single one of the Muslims I personally know. They're all angels.

OK, let's see. Lots of Muslim students at my uni. I also know a couple of Muslim professors. I go to this interfaith dialogue group where about 1/3 of the people are Muslims with backgrounds in different countries. The pharmacy in the drugstore across the street is run by a Muslim pharmacist with several Muslim employees. The grocery store next to that is owned by a Muslim family, with several Muslim employees. Not to mention the Middle Eastern food store a few blocks away run by a Muslim family. I am surrounded by Muslims! Every single one of them a nice, normal Canadian human being.

Many... for many years.
Yes. I've grown up with Muslim neighbors, had Muslim classmates in college, colleagues and clients throughout my career. I even have had relatives who 'reverted' as it's called when one joins the faith. And have friends to this day. None of them, in the 50+ years I've known them, has ever been involved in terrorist activities, so when people try to tell me the religion itself is violent, I have to wonder, when did it become so ? Islam does not appeal to me personally, but then no organized religion does, because they all teach misogyny and inequality in their most fundamentalist forms.
Xuan12 · 36-40, M
A bunch. All the ones I know are quite nice. I even got into a fight with one (not about religion), but we eventually worked through it and became friends.
All people around me are muslims
