How is banning the hijab fair? [Spirituality & Religion]

The reason the politicians say that they are banning the hijab is for women's rights and to stop terrorism. That is total bullshit! While I agree that women should not be forced to wear the hijab I also have many girlfriends who wear it not because they are forced to but because it makes them feel closer to their religion. It's no different to Sikhs wearing turbans or Christians wearing crosses. We say we are fighting for equality but in actuality we are oppressing a specific sect under the guise of protecting them from oppression. Oh the irony!
