Why Americans (ok, some) think Catholics aren't Christians? [Spirituality & Religion]

They're the very pillar of Christianity.

Because some people who call themselves "Christians" are ignorant. If there's a way to exclude somebody they're going to find it. If you don't worship in exactly the same way they do, you're wrong. The last time I wasted arguing with someone who said that, I asked them if they understood from whence Protestantism came.

"Of course," she said, "our church is Protestant."
"Sooo," I continued, "Your church was established in [b]protest[/b] against whom ?"
"Against the Catholics, I guess," she admitted.
"Wouldn't that suggest that the Catholic church existed first ?" I pressed.
