It goes well with non-dualistic(Advaita) philosophy.

@ABCDEF7 I had to look it up but I have read lots of Hindu texts… and it is truth in many ways.
ABCDEF7 · M
@Heavenlywarrior Yes, I am follower of Advaita.

@ABCDEF7 what have you found helpful in your path. What practices bring you to more oneness?
ABCDEF7 · M
@Heavenlywarrior It is the path of Knowledge, comes under path of Gyan/Janana Yoga. This path considers the main issue/problem in the oneness is ignorance, And the solution is the Knowledge/Gyan. If you are a person who can't make a single single step forward without logic, then this path is for you. I found it helpful because following this path gave me logical reason to live my life spiritually.

@ABCDEF7 I have been wanting to do yoga for a while now. Are you also speaking of the different poses?
ABCDEF7 · M
@Heavenlywarrior No, that is the Raja Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga, also known as Kundalini Yoga. I am talking about Gyan Yoga.
The Yoga:
Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means "union" or "joining". There are four major ways/aspects of life that can lead you to moksha(union with supreme consciousness) to the extent that you loses your every existence.
1. Gyan/Jnana(Knowledge) Yoga: The path of knowledge of self. The problem this path talks about is ignorance, and the solution is knowledge. You suffer because of your ignorance. Once you gets the true knowledge, all your suffering will end.
2. Bhakti/Prem(Devotion/Love) Yoga: The path of devotion to God. The problem this path talks about is desires/lust etc. and the solution is the devotion to the God. You suffer because of your desires/etc. Once you experience the true love/devotion with God, all your sufferings will end.
3. Karma(Action) Yoga: The path of rightfulness/ rightful action. The problem this path talks about is your bad deeds, and the solution is to do good/right deeds. You suffer because of your bad deeds/karma. Once to fix your actions/karma, all your sufferings will end.
4. Raj/Raja(Ashtanga) Yoga: The path of meditation. The problem this path talks about is restlessness of mind, and the solution is meditation. You suffer because of your distracted/restless state of mind. Once you fixes your state of mind, all your sufferings will end. Today what most the people know yoga, is actually minute part of this yoga.
You may note that Gyan, Karma and Raj Yoga doesn't require you to follow or believe in any sort of God. It's only Bhakti yoga, the path of devotion that requires you to have a relationship with God and devote yourself to God. Most of Hindus only follow Bhakti yoga, and unknowingly follow Gyan Yoga as part of rituals & culture developed by yogis. Some who call themselves atheist but follow Hindu vision of life, they knowingly or unknowingly follow karma yoga. And now few started to do partially accept Ashtanga yoga without understanding it. True Gyan yoga followers are rarest to find out of the four paths in Hindu Vedic philosophy.

@ABCDEF7 ahhh I see. Yeah wise teachings that lead to wellness , wholeness and satisfaction.
Just a thought.
How can one be satisfied if one does not quench a desire?
Isn’t our purpose for being to experience?

@Heavenlywarrior If you desire money, when you get that money, you will start using the money more and will require more money to fulfill your new ambitions relating to money, like you may now want a bigger car and bigger bungalow, and this goes on and on. Similarly if you desire sex, having sex will not satisfy you forever, next day you will require more. Desires are endless. Desires can never be satisfied completely. So in reality you don't find permanent satisfaction in following the desires.

@ABCDEF7 being in the physical fasting is the reason to quench these fleshly desires … but when the body requires to eat at some point…. Isn’t that a desire still?
ABCDEF7 · M
@Heavenlywarrior You have to see if you are eating for living, or living for the (pleasure of) eating.
The issue is not with eating food or having sex. Both are required for survival of mankind. The issue is if these things hijack your mentality and actions of your whole life, humans will be living a life lower than they are made for. Every animal lives for the survival, they only know to eat and reproduce. Animals lives for these two things. Humans deserves to live a better life, not trapped the circle of desires.
I am not saying to live a spiritual or religious life. Do whatever you think is better and the right. But be something more than the biological animal in you. Live to your fullest potential. That is what civilization is about.

@ABCDEF7 very true. That is what separates us from beasts. Being able reason and make a choice to be or not to be.
It’s very interesting how our desires when not balanced causes us to be in a form of slavery or prison of that desire until it kills us.
It’s interesting because Desire itself desires as you said, and when desire is full grown it brings death.
Confirming the scripture in the Bible.
