I Am On My Own Spiritual Path

There is nothing more important or satisfying than learning how to control your own output of thoughts and experiencing the result of it for yourself. Because the "default" state is to just soak up everything around you like a sponge, without having any degree of control over what you're emitting at all. You can't control your mind, the way you feel, your emotions, or your general state of being in life - at least, this is how it feels when we're operating from within that automatic, chatter-box state - that non-stop flow of thoughts we mistake ourselves to be...

Most people don't realise that they - the person - are even having thoughts in the first place. We don't so much *have* thoughts, we believe those thoughts are who we actually are. This is the error! This is what needs changing. Not the thoughts themselves, but the way we're perceiving ourselves in relation to the thoughts when they come up. If you can allow yourself to know that it's possible to observe a thought without needing to entertain it, then it means that you - the person - must be "stood outside" the thought entirely in order to be observing it in the first place.

If you're capable of observing a thought (which we all are), then it means that you are actually more than the thought itself. In which case, you are *not* the thought, but what is commonly called the "witness" of the thought or the observing presence. This understanding is what creates the "gap" or distance between ourselves and the thought, and in so doing (and with time and practice) we can eventually become conscious thinkers instead of automatic, reactionary ones. We can then learn to direct and manage our own thoughts in whatever way we prefer. We get control over everything, even the things we can't control. Bliss. Bliss. Bliss.
