Our perception of reality is an illusion or a construct of our minds.

@JimboSaturn Where does your mind come from?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@sree251 Good question. its an emergent property of our brain.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@JimboSaturn Wrong. The brain is the black box that the neuroscientists, guys just like you, think is the maker of the mind. The brain is stuff inside the skull. You believe you came out of that muck?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@sree251 Yes

@JimboSaturn How can non living matter produce something that is conscious if matter isn't conscious, if matter is conscious in some type of way then the emergent theory would make sense.

Philosophically, I'm leaning between panpsychism and monist dualism.
@sree251 More presuppositionslist nonsense. If human consciousness came from an invisible conscious deity, where did that deity’s consciousness come from, and by what mechanism was it imbued into people?
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@LeopoldBloom Consciousness is not a deity nor a god.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@LeopoldBloom How does non living matter produce consciousness if matter is not conscious in any way?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Peaceandnamaste Just the same way that non living molecules can form life. Life and consciousness are emergent properties they come to being driven by an order of processes.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@JimboSaturn I disagree that consciousness is 100% emergent, I believe that consciousness is part of the universe and that life is part of the consciousness.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Peaceandnamaste I have no way to disprove you, I just don't know why that would be the case.
@Peaceandnamaste It's a spectrum. Just as we have prions on one end which are not alive, viruses that may or may not be alive depending on how you define "life," on to bacteria and other lifeforms, consciousness is also on a spectrum. We are learning that plants communicate with each other and have a rudimentary form of intelligence. And of course, anyone who lives with a pet will notice that animals are definitely conscious even if their intelligence is not on par with humans. So there's a spectrum there too.

The problem is black and white religious thinking that says something is either alive or not alive, or conscious or not conscious with no possibility of uncertainty.

@JimboSaturn From muck you came, then to muck you shall return.
