Desire, the root cause of sorrow

These words of Buddha is quoted widely. It never felt relevant to me when I was young. But now having seen life a lot more, I am finally getting it. It feels more meaningful.

Do you feel that desire is the root cause of all sorrows?

I believe it can cause much heartache but not always…

@NoGamesTolerated That's what I too used to think. But when I took a break and watched what's going on around me. I feeling We are driven by one desire or another. It's not a bad thing. But it seems to eat up our resources a lot. Isn't it so?
@Renkon wait… I’m talking about basic needs of the human body. If you’re at the point of starvation, you are already in sorrow. And even more so in trouble if extremely dehydrated… And you’re telling me to “desire” food when you’re starving already brings sorrow? Baloney! I’ve watched family after family choose to stop all means of keeping alive when family members have no quality life. And I’m telling you that it is surprising how long a person can live with no food. This flesh doesn’t die easy. Water not so much… death is much quicker for having no water. Starving every day can be atrocious!! Hence why I said “not always” Just my humble opinion… and I’m standing by it. 🙂

@NoGamesTolerated when you consider the basic human needs, you are definitely right. But isn't basic needs and desire different? You need food, but you can desire a cheese burger. But you clarified the context nicely.
@Renkon I firmly believe ‘to want is to desire’. As I said, it’s my opinion and I’m firmly sticking by it! If you wanted me personally to agree with you (and I know you do not), your original post should be clearly stated desires that you don’t require to live. And we can agree to disagree if you can’t see that!

@NoGamesTolerated The devil is in the details right? 'Agree to disagree'.. right to the point. Why am I getting the feeling you would make a fine attorney 😉
@Renkon attention to details hun! 😉 I’d be better as a private investigator if I didn’t get myself killed. Lol

@NoGamesTolerated Not a bad choice. Enola Holmes? Right suit, Right hat and an eye for the elementary… and you are there 🕵️‍♀️
@Renkon excuse me 🤔elementary????

@NoGamesTolerated it means attention to basics. Something every private investigator needs to have. And a reference to Sherlock Holmes.
@Renkon ok, I’d have made him a good assistant…
