The world inside my head... and outside

On thursday I went to the bar. There was a man ordering while I waited and the waitress spoke to him, he made a somewhat exagerated expression and I commented on it. We started to talk and did not stop for more then 2 hours. He told me lots about his life. That evening he was bored since he was waiting for his wife to arrive, he showed me her picture and their daughters and a grand daughters with dog. It was a nice conversation. I enjoy meeting new people and he was polite and funny and easy to listen too. I told him about my life too, me being alone with my children ...having a rough time - not all too bad really but him having other standards he concluded: You are in the shit. He invited me for a beer and smoked my cigarettes. After he left briefly and came back with two packs of fags and handed me one. Anyway while we continued talking we smoked from his. He told me about his background in Ireland and I told him where I am from... He once knew a girl from my hometown in Germany. He met her traveling and told me.. and that was the last thing before I had to leave for my children... "She was older then me and asked if I would come with her to Germany. But I asked what would I be doing? I don t speak the language so it is hard to find work there.." She said: "You can walk the dog." "Which dog?" Which ever you like..." He laughed.
Well he didn t go to Germany walking dogs, my man did though and that is where he died from cancer, complaining that soon I would have to walk my dog myself again. I told that Maurice and went inside to pay. He after a moment stept up to me and asked: "Do you have the cigarettes I gave you?" I thought he would maybe want to swap for the full pack - fair enough I smoked half of his. I gave it to him and he handed me the half empty, I saw something was put in there. He said: You alone with your kids need that more than me." " I wil not even look." I did not. I thanked him and went.
Maurice - I looked up the meaning of his name out of curiosity next day, St. Maurice next to "Candidus" in the Thebian legion..... came up. "Candido" is my late loves family nick name, and to add a pinch of humour - well Theben... I have a new celebrity crush on an egyptian actor... But well now most importantly, my poor old doggies urgent vetenary bill is paid for by the generosity of this man. "St. Maurice" not of Theben ... but Belfast. ☺️
