Is this proof that Putin might be an Atheist?

So he does the sign of the cross but it didn't seem sincere to me. Also he is doing some weird macho thing at the same time which means he's trying to make a mockery of people who believe in Jesus.

Even if this is true (doubtful), then what does it matter?

There is no causation here and no relevance.

Though if you wanna talk about invasions started by Christian leaders, it's long and ignoble history...
@Burnley123 a long and old history. Much more recent invasions are based on different ideologies

@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP George W Bush and Tiny Blair were staunch Christians each. Dubya even occasionally referenced Christianity when taking about the missions.

I'm not saying this was the principle reason but it was something which added moral justification for some of the actors.
@Burnley123 what leader (especially an American one) doesn't reference some higher power as moral justification for war? I wouldn't say Blair's or Bush's invocation were above the baseline

Yeah, the Jesus people are instead famous for having always aligned with the "right side" throughout history

@markansas Yeah no need to go that back in history tbh
Only God knows his heart. Some do wear crosses, even as fashion, but their words and lifestyle do not reflect that they know Christ. There are also those who know OF Christ, yet the bible says, have no personal relationship with Him. There's a big difference between the two.
Looks like Putin is combining baptism with mortification of the flesh. Both practices have a loooong tradition in the Christian faith.
@ElwoodBlues It is a local tradition in some parts of Russia.

@markansas It dies whiff if 'Yahoo troll.' It's possibly too glib and contrarian to be serious at all.

Why do you equate everything negative to Atheism?

This has nothing to do with a "weird macho thing" This is a local tradition in part of Russia done Annually by locals. It is very normal for leaders to participate in local events like that for PR.

As for his convictions I don't really care. The only one that knows is him. But the Orthodox church is a powerful force in Russia and has to be courted if you want to get anywhere these days.
@markansas I came across it on a program about different places in Russia in the early 2000s when RT was just an English language channel geared towards ex-pats. If memory serves it has something to do with baptism. Not sure why doing it in -30 C is a thing though. lol
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow ya in colo it was not about being baptism . it was a winter time event of cutting a 10 ft square into the ice and doing a dunk for bout 20 seconds.
@markansas Here in Canada we have similar things called a Polar Bear Swim. Crazy winter festival shit. lol

That could be true. I really don't know!
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
Nothing is sincere about him
No, rather, this is a silly post.
I don't think we can have any idea of what Putin believes, no matter how much we know about what he says or does. I'm not even sure he knows. He might fool himself into being somewhat partial to Christianity because it suits him politically, but I doubt you could call him a true believer in anything
