Hitchens asked this one. [Spirituality & Religion]

Can you name any moral deed or act that a Christian can do that an Atheist can’t ?
(Prayers don’t count.)

No, but you can't establish morality with atheism. It just becomes subjective at that point

@Rolexeo Or...

@HotDad That's not how morality works, you're conflating agreed upon with moral.

@Rolexeo What immoral act would you have done but for Christianity? Murder? Theft?
FCNantes · 22-25, M
@Rolexeo Well, given that you believe religions can have objective morals, so can atheism. It boils down to believing that something/someone inherently matters. With Catholicism, certain things are laid out as inherently good & inherently bad.

You agree with this so far?
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@HotDad I'd agree assuming there is no God
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@FCNantes Only if God actually exists can objective morals exist.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Rolexeo And what immoral act have you not done because of God?
FCNantes · 22-25, M
@Rolexeo When you say objective morals, do you mean things that inherently matter or morals set by God that don't necessarily align with what inherently matters? Or something else altogether?
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@Human1000 You underestimate how much Christianity has contributed to our morals
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@FCNantes Set by God that inherently matter
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Rolexeo Okay, so you’ve answered none you are aware of.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@Human1000 You do realize I believe in God but not religion, right?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Rolexeo That’s why I asked, what immoral act have you not done because of God. You won’t answer.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@Human1000 I'm telling you I don't believe in ojective morals so your question doesn't make sense, dumbass

@Rolexeo @Rolexeo You believe in God but not objective morals. Interesting…that’s quite a lame God.

@Rolexeo So, if you need something to inherently matter in order to have objective morals, as long as you believe that certain things do inherently matter, you can have objective morals, irrespective of your religious affilliation.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Rolexeo That’s it! 😜
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@FCNantes This joker believes in an immoral God…weird, but honest.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@FCNantes That's how we all live life but I don't think it's the same as things objectively mattering. Or maybe it is, you can say certain things objectively matter to you but it's impossible to create a society where everyone's needs and wants are met cause we'd infringe on eachother
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@Human1000 How do you define moral and immoral? By how you feel? Agreed upon rules? It's arbitrary
