The Catholic parish of Harrington Street was founded from the parish of Francis Street in 1865. It covers an area bounded to the north by Long Lane, Camden Row and Montague Street, to the south by the Grand Canal, to the west by Dufferin Avenue, and to the east by Harcourt Street. If you are a Catholic living within these confines, Harrington Street is your parish.
The parish church is Saint Kevin’s, one of Dublin’s finest gothic-revival buildings. It was designed by E. W. Pugin and G. Ashlin, and built between 1869 and 1872, though the work of decorating the interior continued for several years afterwards.
From 1880 until 1974 Cardinal Newman’s University Church, Saint Stephen’s Green, served as a chapel of ease to the parish.
In addition to being a parish church, Saint Kevin’s is also the home of the diocesan Latin Mass Chaplaincy, which draws people from all over the city of Dublin and beyond; see www.latinmassdublin.ie. From 2nd February 2020 it is also the home of the Dublin Oratory-in-formation.
Public Worship Suspended Again
To our great dismay, public worship has yet again been suspended.
The church will remain open for private prayer. The church opens every day at 9 am, and closing times are as normal.
On Saturday evenings the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, and confessions will be heard, from 6 to 7 pm.
On Sundays the Sacrament will be exposed from 9 am to 1 pm, and confessions will be heard from 10 am to 12 noon.
Please pray that circumstances will allow us to resume public Masses as soon as possible.
