Ingwe · F
sophisticated design—calls for a designer
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Ingwe Inevitability doesnt.
Sharon · F
@Ingwe So? There's no reason the think the universe was designed.
Ingwe · F
@Sharon let us talk about the laws of nature
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Ingwe Let’s do that. What did you want to say?
Ingwe · F
What makes the Earth habitable?
It is the right distance from the Sun,
it is protected from harmful solar radiation by its magnetic field,
it is kept warm by an insulating atmosphere,
and it has the right chemical ingredients for life,
including water and carbon.

well thought out design
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Ingwe It would be if... and only if... the life we see today were the goal.

If not, then there could still well be life, but not the life we see today.

Consequently, you’re assuming that there was a goal, and that goal was you.

How arrogant!
Ingwe · F
@newjaninev2 the goal was to create all there is / complex woking systems and for someone to enjoy that
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Ingwe Your argument boils down to:

Things are the way they are, and if they were not the way they are, they would be different.

Hardly profound!
Sharon · F
@Ingwe
harmful solar radiation
...
well thought out design.
Why design the sun to emit harmful radiation?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Ingwe Why are there so manny failures out there then? Planets that can't substain life and actually seem to be pretty useless right now? Not to mention large blocks of substance that are reminants from colusions and (well) the big bang swirling around in space till they get into one of the planets gravity and crashes down on them? Is that all inteligent design, or did the engineer got a bit drunk early on saturday before he rested?
Ingwe · F
@newjaninev2
as usual you throw insults at a person avoiding the topic
because you haven't got a leg to stand on
you see it makes sense and it goes against your weak story
now insults begin
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Ingwe Which insult is that?
Ingwe · F
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Ingwe
the goal was to create all there is
Whose goal was that?
Sharon · F
@newjaninev2 I'm struggling to see your insults too.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Ingwe
someone to enjoy that
That someone being you, I assume
Sharon · F
@newjaninev2 She didn't last long. I've seen creationists do that quite often, just post some unsupported opinion then cry "foul" and run away when challenged. How can anyone take them seriously?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Ingwe Considering the amount of galaxies, stars, solar systems and planets out of there, there is technically room for the hypothesis of being in that one in 1,000,000,000,000 chance or random generation.

Furthermore, your explanation would only push the problem up: if such a sophisticate design required a designer, a designer would need to be at least just as complex, and by your own rule would need a designer too.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Ingwe yes you're right, no one will ever convince me that the whole thing happened by blind chance!
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@TheWildEcho I'm more amazed someone convinced you that some persona just put it all together for your enjoyment.
Sharon · F
@TheWildEcho
no one will ever convince me that the whole thing happened by blind chance!
Good, it's a strawman. Creationists are the only ones who suggest that as an alternative to their creation myth.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@Kwek00 this just again confirms that I am God. The getting drunk on a Saturday confirms it.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Kwek00 not sure anyone convinced me, I worked it out for myself
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@TheWildEcho You really think that you came to this conclussion all by yourself? I don't know man, that seems highly improbable, but I'm pretty sure it sounds nice to you.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@TheWildEcho If you were born in (pre-Christian) ancient Rome you would've most likely been a polytheist, if you were born in nowadays Saudi Arabia, you would've most likely been a muslim, and so on. There definitely is some influence, all societies are permeated by their official or unofficial "religion of state".
