Why do theists see non-belief in God as a system? [Spirituality & Religion]

Many people don't believe in fairies (say) but no one refers to that as a belief system.

A belief system, does not have to be about religion, it could be about anything. Believing that there is no God, is a belief system.
Do you consider not believing in Santa Claus as a belief system, "anti-Clausism" or something like that ? Usually a belief "system" involves more than just one belief, and atheists have nothing in common besides a disbelief in deities. It's not even necessarily the same deity.

I find it difficult to relate to that idea because the concept is never used to explain non-belief in anything else. It's inconsistent. Thank you for your answer.

@bijouxbroussard: Yes, exactly. That is my issue with calling non-belief a belief system. You explained it better!

@bijouxbroussard: I am going by the simple Mirriam Webster definition of belief:

"a feeling of being sure that someone or something exists or that something is true"

If I don't believe Santa Claus to be real, than this is part of my belief system.

The system is the sum of the things I believe in. It includes my belief that there is no God, there is no Santa Claus, that a Trump Presidency is a danger to the entire world, that we should not rely on fossil fuels, and so on and so forth.

If someone is religious, it's part of their belief system, but belief in religion, by its lonesome, is not a belief system.
So by that reckoning:

If someone is not religious, it's part of their belief system, but nonbelief in religion, by its lonesome, is not a belief system.

Thank you. 😇

@Northwest: You and bijouxbroussard appear to agree then. Non-belief in a deity or deities is not, in itself, a belief system.

@bijouxbroussard: A system, by definition, is more than one entity. People often use belief and faith, interchangeably. I believe they're not.
@Northwest: So, it's even clearer that non belief is not a system. Many who believe have several points in common. Those who don't only have that one.
Absolutely correct; other than those who don't believe would try to stitch someone up another way into discrediting what you just said but in a different way. A(a)theist have a way of knowing everything :)
@Justbychance: This is a three week old post. If you just came to slam atheists, I'm not one. But Northwest's clarification made more sense:
"If someone is religious,(or not~bb) it's part of their belief system, but belief in religion, (or lack thereof~bb) by its lonesome, is not a belief system."

@bijouxbroussard: I am an atheist, but i''m not going to slam anyone for being religious, No one actually knows the truth. I only object, when someone tries to "save" me. Don't know where the "atheists know everything" came from, but yeah, it seems to be an attempt to slam me, even though I said that I don't have THE answer.

@Northwest: @Northwest: quite a reasonable statement. Stunning.
