...suspends the Earth over nothing
Nonsense

This muppet needs to get his facts straight before he tries to mislead people

The Earth isn’t 'floating in space’

It’s falling towards the Sun
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 What is below the earth? Nothing or a giant turtle? Hmmm.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 There is no ’below'
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 Perhaps you didn’t read my comment.

The Earth is falling towards the Sun

It’s not hanging in space
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 Really? Wow well there goes your giant turtle theory right out the window. Hmmm The earth is actually held in space by angular momentum and gravitational attraction. The
suspends the earth over nothing
is a valid description. It is not meant to be a technical discussion. It is simply pointing out that we can't find any strings attached.

@newjaninev2 And its not much of a consolation to think that I'll get there long before it!
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2
The Earth is falling towards the Sun. It’s not hanging in space
According to whom?
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 Yet again...

The Earth is falling towards the Sun

It’s not hanging in space
It is not meant to be a technical discussion
Then why is this muppet babbling on about ‘scientific facts’ (whatever they are supposed to be)?

He spends the first few minutes explaining that his book isn’t a science book, and then starts trying to present it as a science book.

Now he’s started going on about ‘time’.

This will be hilarious..!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 Well we listen to your supposedly scientific facts all the time. Your points are usually nonsense. If you simply look at the earth in space it does appear to be a bit lonesome. Yes it has the sun and the moon and the planets not too far away in universal terms but other than that.... Who do you suppose set up the perfect orbit for the earth and provided it with a moon to keep the big junk from hitting it and a huge vacuum cleaner called Jupiter to keep it even more safe. Pretty smart Designer.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 If the Solar System wasn’t the way it is, then it would be different... and that would also work extremely well
perfect orbit for the earth
Mass warps space, and space shows mass how to move.

Your feet are younger than your head.

Why would that need some magical entity?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 Except there would be no life here. Ask Fred Hoyle.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 and there, right there, is the conceit and self-absorption that underlies religion.

The assumption that all this had to be, because otherwise... no us.

no me

unthinkable

Because all this is for little ol’ me, right? Because I’m the centre of the universe, right? (well, at least the centre of the galaxy)
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955
there would be no life here
There might be different life here, but you’re not interested in that, are you, because it wouldn’t be you.

So let’s pretend that what is, had to be
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 Fred Hoyle was an atheist. Did you miss that part? BTW have you ever tried to imagine warped space. It strikes me as a bit of an analogy using the analogy as a basis. Kind of silly when you think about it. You do think I assume.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 Well I suppose a loving Creator could have used other specs to make other life forms. He is omnipotent after all. That aside the fact is the numbers we have seem almost too perfect according to Hoyle who said it was like Someone tinkered with the universal constants to make them all just right.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 Oh, you want to talk about universal constants?

OK, Let’s do that. 😀
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 Why? You don't even know who Hoyle was. Too Funny!
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955 Why are you going on about Hoyle?
Carazaa · F
@newjaninev2
How does this happen Newjanine2?
The Earth rotates on its axis once each day. Because the circumference of the Earth at the equator is 24,901.55 miles, a spot on the equator rotates at approximately 1,037.5646 miles per hour (1,037.5646 times 24 equals 24,901.55), or 1,669.8 km/h.

hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa Sorry to let you know this but the math you just posted is wrong. At the equator the earth is 24,901 miles around. Since it takes 24 hours to rotate the velocity at the equator relative to the centre of the earth is 1037.5 MPH. The center of the earth is moving through space around the sun at the velocity of 66,626 MPH. Those on the equator depending on the time of day could vary from 67,664 to 65,588 MPH relative to the sun.
Carazaa · F
@newjaninev2 Can you answer my question please? I am asking exactly HOW are we rotating fast in space?
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Carazaa Good morning (6:30 Saturday morning here)

I’m not sure what you’re asking. Are you referring to Earth’s rotation, or to Earth’s orbit?
Carazaa · F
@newjaninev2
How is the earth suspended in space exactly?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa The Biblical description "He suspends the earth over nothing." is quite accurate. The earth is spinning through space. Yes it is tethered to the sun but the sun is also spinning its way through space. Yes the sun is in the Milky Way but the Milky Way is also spinning through space.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Carazaa The Earth is not suspended in space.

The Earth is falling towards the Sun

The ‘scientific facts’ in your bible are ether wrong, or were already known before it was cobbled together
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 I know its accurate just waiting for Newjanine2 to give me an explanation how it happened?
