What IS Truth, and How Do We Receive it? God did not leave us to guess. [Spirituality & Religion]
The Bible has much to say about truth and directly relates it to God. Either the Bible is absolute truth, or it is a book of lies. Many today, will deny parts of the Bible and accept other parts, but that is a faith NOT based on the Word of God... but feelings. Truth is absolute.
Is there any truth IN us? Isaiah 8:20 -"If they do not speak according to God's Word, it is because there is no light in them... surely they are speaking like this because the truth hasn't dawned on them."
Satan was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character, for he is a liar and the Father of Lies. John 8:44
"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the TRUTH is NOT in us. As it is written, there is no one that is righteous, not even one." (1 John 1:8) So, all have sin, and do not meet God's standard of moral righteousness. HOWEVER....
"When the Spirit of TRUTH (the Holy Spirit) comes to you, HE will guide you INTO all truth, for he will not speak on his OWN authority, but (on the authority of God) whatever he hears, and will teach you many things, and declare to you the things that are to come... He is the true God and eternal life." John 16:13
John 17:17, tells us that GOD is Truth. Not just "A" truth or "ANY" truth, but "THE" truth. Jesus said to him, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to my Father, except by Me." John 14:6
John 8:32 ~ "And you will KNOW the truth (not guess), and the truth shall set you free."
John 1:17 ~ "For the law was given through Moses... but grace and truth, CAME FROM JESUS CHRIST.
We falsely claim to know the truth, if we do not live it out. Truth is also something that we DO (1st John 3:18), and we are not faithful to the Lord if we are not concerned to walk in his true ways (Psalm 86:11). This does not mean we'll walk perfect in the Lord, but it does mean that we repent, whenever we find ourselves living contrary to his standards. And if we love the Lord, we will WANT to live according to His Word and standards; not make excuses for ignoring them. If we say we have fellowship with him, yet we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (1John 1:5-10)
Truth has no guess work behind it, when one earnestly seeks Jesus, and finds Him. The immediate indwelling of the Holy Spirit, upon our confession of faith and commitment to our Savior, seals that holy union and there's no mistaking the Holy Spirit's transforming presence and work in us.
In the face of postmodern relativism, we know that ultimate, objective truths do not exist. Though we may not accurately perceive or understand our world at times, the same does NOT apply to the Almighty. Therefore, truth is that which conforms to reality...as it is perceived by GOD. For He knows all things exhaustively, and so we can trust anything He reveals in Scripture. Truth is not defined by our own subjective standards; it is determined by the flawless, infinite Source of Truth...God Himself. It is HE that sets the standards; not us.
Some may believe in Jesus, some may not. And while some may doubt the personal testimony and experience of the follower of Christ, neither shall they ever be able to disprove it.
Jesus died for all, not just one; yet, if you were the only one He had to die for, He would not have hesitated.
Our attitude toward the truth, determines the outcome of our lives. if we don't love the truth, if we resist it, we resist salvation...but if we do love the truth, then we embrace salvation and we receive the reward: the Crown of Eternal Life.
"The fool says in his heart, there is no God." Psalm 14:1
"Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him." Proverbs 30:5
