God tells us to obey our leaders because they are put there by God. Romans 13 [Spirituality & Religion]

13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Does that count for all leaders? Like did God stick Hitler in charge of Germany back in the day? Did He send Pol Pot to the top of the pile? Is it just leaders of sovereign states or is it any leader? So many questions, religion is weird when you come at it from this authority angle rather than just spiritual stuff.

@Shpiders No one has asked you to kill anyone, have they? So you are just trolling!
Shpiders · 22-25
@Carazaa who said anything about killing anyone!?
Carazaa · F
@Shpiders You did when you mentioned Hitler! Please stop now or I will block you!
@Carazaa You posted something and you get a reasonable response and you get upset like this?
Carazaa · F
@BiasForAction Only when I answer and they mock the answer.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Carazaa Sorry, but you'll have to explain where the mockery was. I think @Shpiders's comments were reasonable.
Carazaa · F
@Bushranger I resent bringing Hitler into the conversation. STOP trolling!

@Carazaa You put a post about leaders. You have to accept that it applies to all leaders unless you can exclude uncomfortable ones. This is where literal translations have problems.
Carazaa · F
@Zeusdelight It applies to all leaders.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Carazaa So, you are saying that the Nuremberg Defence of just following Orders was one God would support? Even though the Nuremberg Judges did not accept it.
Carazaa · F
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Carazaa So they shouldn't follow their leader? It is a complex book the Bible.
Carazaa · F
@Zeusdelight Love trumps law. So of course if we are in the government and told to do anything unethical we have to quit our jobs.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Carazaa So, I am a German soldier with a wife and three young children. I am ordered to do something dodgy. If I don't do it, I'll be shot, and my wife and children will starve because of the war. Someone else will then do it. If I do it, they will live and I will live. What do I do?
Carazaa · F
@Zeusdelight Christians must do what Jesus says. Anything unethical or unloving we must never do. Regardless of the consequences.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Carazaa So you have a Masters of Science and a Masters of Art and you didn't once do anything unethical or unloving in completing all of the study leading to the enrollment in the Masters; Courses or the Courses themselves
Carazaa · F
@Zeusdelight Not that I am aware of! Being kind is important to me because it makes God happy and it is the right thing to do because people are hurting in the world. I try to make it better.
