There is nothing like religion to be guaranteed to start a bitter argument... so does that not rather prove/demonstrate how it makes people miss the point of faith...

And now most disappointingly, here I am allowing myself to be drawn in to the discussion.......
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Justme264 I meant this post to be about Jesus, not religion, there's a big difference, but the anti God brigade have arrived as usual(and I don't mean you!)
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Justme264 Sometimes the arguing is only coming from one side, the other side is still in discussion mode..
Sharon · F
@TheWildEcho Jesus is a figure in the christian religion so he and and religion are closely connected.
Justme264 · 70-79, M
@Sharon agreed... but so is Mohsmmed in the islamic faith or Moses to the Jews but I don't see you writing post about them.... only christians....

So I say to all of you.....Have we not more pressing issues to talk over than different religous beliefs... people are saying world wide out there...... this stuff is irrelevant at the mo

@Justme264
What's more important then a person eternal destination ?

Nothing..
Justme264 · 70-79, M
@Adstar apologies but i confess,to not understanding a word of what you just said..... pm me please to articulate what you are saying because i will not become involved in public debate over words I do not understand and therefore be ridiculed for not understanding. I read your post about the words imperialism vs colonialism... interesting indeed... so I am not a total plank.

@Justme264 My point was that, contrary to what @TheWildEcho said, there is no real difference between Jesus and religion.

To answer your point, I'm not harassed by Muslims or members of others religions when I'm in town. Nor do they disturb me at home with "the good news" about their gods. Only christians do that.

When I ask members of other religions about their beliefs, I get polite answers. When I ask christians similar questions I get childish insults and abuse.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Sharon when have you ever got childish insults or abuse off me Sharon?
Justme264 · 70-79, M
@Sharon May I ask what happens in town then... happy to do it in pm's. Personally, I have never been harassed by people of any faith but I do not accept that any faith should try and impose their belief's on me. I do now I think about, recall christians trying to involve me on rare occasions... but then again, I have never had much social contact with other faiths, so statistically I may be making an irrational comparison.
Sharon · F
@TheWildEcho I didn't say I have. There are plenty of other christians here though who respond to any question about christianity with insults and abuse. I suspect you know which ones I refer to.

Street preachers and their helpers accosting people trying to go about their business. It can happen any time of the year but especially around Yuletide.
Justme264 · 70-79, M
@Sharon i would,just say politelythe same to them as I do to the Jehovah's witnesses on my doorstep... "sorry, I cannot talk to you about this stuff, I have seen too much unnecessary tragedy too feel this can change anything"
Sharon · F
@Justme264
i would,just say politelythe same to them as I do to the Jehovah's witnesses on my doorstep
The works with JWs, whom I've found to be quite polite, other than the unsolicited visit. Some of the others are a lot more pushy though and simply won't take no for an answer. Arrogance personified.
Justme264 · 70-79, M
@Sharon i do take your piont and I have seen some very unkind behaviour and self centredness exhibited by some "christians" ut i have,had limited exposure to other faiths.

What seems "telling to me is the fact that ther are many different denominations/faiths that cannot even agree amongst themselves howxto worship... sunni, shia, catholic, non catholic.. the list is endless.. how can that make sense.
Sharon · F
@Justme264 I've met people of various faiths, both online and IRL. I've never found the type of arrogance exhibited by christians common in other religions. Others tend to preface their statements of belief with "We believe..." or "My religion teaches..." or similar qualification. Christians just state their beliefs as proven, irrefutable facts.
act that ther are many different denominations/faiths that cannot even agree amongst themselves howxto worship
A Pagan High Priest explained that to me as the "Ultimate Source" revealing itself to different people differently, in a way they could understand and in keeping with their situation.
Carazaa · F
@Justme264 why are you here if you hate to discuss may I ask?
Justme264 · 70-79, M
@Carazaa you may of course ask..... and I am not here to discuss.... I happened to notice the subject of the post and I was simply commenting on how angry people appear to become when discussing religion!
Carazaa · F
@Justme264 Christians are attacked a lot and so some get fed up! I was an atheist as a child but since I have been saved I want to please God and tell others about Jesus!
It is out of love of God and love of people I am here but it gets harder, because all people hear is that they are sinners and need to repent instead of the wonderful things God has prepared for those who love him!
LeoWulf · 36-40, M
@Sharon Interesting! Jesus is a religious figure in Islam too! Muslims consider him as one of their messengers. Insult Jesus in front of a devout Muslim and you'll see how they react ☺
Sharon · F
@LeoWulf I never met a Muslim anything like as arrogant and "in your face" as some of the christians I've had the misfortune to encounter. If their mythical "heaven" is full of people like that, I'm glad I'm not going there.
Carazaa · F
@Sharon At least we don’t kill people like Muslims!
LeoWulf · 36-40, M
@Sharon I assume you live in a western country? In that case you are less likely to come across any such muslims or other non-Christians. I happen to have Muslim friends who are nice ppl.
But anyway my point was about Jesus being a holy figure in both Christianity and Islam.
LeoWulf · 36-40, M
@Sharon Btw there is a Sharia (Islamic law) Patrol group in New York and also in Birmingham, UK. You might wanna look up what they do ☺
@LeoWulf I just did.
