Why Do Scoffers Scoff? What's The Big Deal? [Spirituality & Religion]

7 “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8 Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Proverbs 9:7-9

Even those scoffers have intelligence, you can tell they hardly use it by their scoffing.

Wise men use a great amount of intelligence and need not scoff at their instruction.

What happens when a wise man scoffs at what a religion teaches? The Bible will paint non-believers as fools, but this idea is formed on an assumption that only the shunning of reason can lead to truth. If we favor nonsense we'll get a prize- after we're dead?

@Nika2002 Godliness leads to reason and a sound mind!

@Carazaa I disagree. Belief in God requires first dishonoring reason. It creates an imbalanced mind- at least on the topic of truth. I don't think religious people are necessarily bad or crazy.

@Nika2002 Godlessness does not only lead to a deceived mind but God has told us it eventually leads to a deprived and perverse mind!

@Carazaa If we unreasonably assume that God exists and dictated those words then you could be right.

@Nika2002 Such an assumption would be unreasonable by definition as there is no evidence to support it.

The wise do not scoff.

Why is it unreasonable to know and believe that Yahweh lives?
