I walked away from the church but not from God. I found that I had better piece of mind and clarity of thought in God's creation 7 days a week rather than in a room full of hypocrites for a couple of hours a week.

@goliathtree Awesome, you sound very wise. i would like to know what the church did or didn't do that caused this?
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@Silverwings From front to back, including in the pulpit, people seemed to think that 2 hours a week of off key singing was enough to get you into heaven. It is a 7 day a week effort in my mind. You still fail just as much, but you at least are not kidding yourself.
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@goliathtree And I am far from wise. I am an idiot just like everyone else.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Interesting some of us are Christians because we know we fail and belong to a church because we know we need each other to help each other. To us Christianity is a seven day a week effort and we try to do it together even when socially distanced! @goliathtree
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@goliathtree so you feel they were not sincere in their efforts?
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@goliathtree speak for yourself, I do not nor never have even remotely considered myself as being an "idiot".
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You remind me of the pastor who went told by a gentleman he wouldn’t be attending as his church was full of hypocrites, replied to the gentleman concerned, “Don’t worry! We have room for another!” @goliathtree
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@Speedyman There is a fair amount of truth there. The difference is that I know I am a hypocrite and make an effort not to be. Hypocrisy does not magically disappear by going to church.
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@Silverwings Some may be sincere in their efforts, but, from my observation, a large number live by the "do as I say, not as I do." I am certainly blind to many of my shortcomings as are most, but I realize they are there (even if I am unsure of what they all are) and am not afraid to say they are. Pride cometh before the fall and I am not above pride, but I am also not so foolish as to think I know everything.

@Speedyman And, I agree, if you are sincere in knowing your failings, and are seeking the church for support in attempting to correct them, then more power to you. I found that it was a distraction that amplified my failings and that I was better off not going.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You might of tried to correct your failings rather than blame the church. Alternatively you could have found a church that helped you. @goliathtree
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@Speedyman I am not blaming the church for my failings. It is easier for me to deal with them without the distraction. I found a church that has helped me with that. It is called the glory of God's creation.
