When I was born to a monster who believed in murder in his name
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@Moosepantspatty I do not understand?
Moosepantspatty · 31-35, M
@Silverwings my mother, a devoutly religious woman held in high regard in her community attempted to take my life as a child in the name of God.
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@Moosepantspatty I am so sorry, were you old enough to understand what was happening? This must have affected your relationship with her drastically? Is she still alive? She had to have had a mental illness?
Moosepantspatty · 31-35, M
@Silverwings I was 12 when it happened, we didnt speak after that until she died.

She was fit as a fiddle, other than her fanatical religious views.
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@Moosepantspatty what on earth was she thinking?
Moosepantspatty · 31-35, M
@Silverwings that I was sin incarnate. Nothin she could do to fix me, so shed save my soul and remove the blight.
@Moosepantspatty Honey, I'm so sorry that happened to you, but you know she was not in her right mind. The cause could be anything, including a hormonal imbalance, but that is not God's fault. Perhaps her parents were abusive to her. God doesn't make people mentally ill. Something just happens in nature. I sure wish you hadn't experienced that. God really gives a pure, genuine love. He loves you. He wants to comfort you, whether you believe that or not.
Silverwings · 61-69, F
@Moosepantspatty that is awful!!
Moosepantspatty · 31-35, M
@LadyGrace I dont believe it. I believe that you are grounded in your faith, and with good reason. I believe that your faith drives you to try and help people.

But her faith was unquestionable, her mental health was sound, and our congregation backed her decisions. They believed it was was Gods will, they believed that she was doing the right thing, including our pastor who believed in attempting an exorcism before she took it to that point. There was no doubt in there minds that I wasn't just a different young boy, that I was instead an icon of sin.
@Moosepantspatty I don't believe you were an icon of sin. I believe the pastor and congregation thought they were doing right, but even they can be in error. Depends on their doctrine. There are many false churches out there...cults. I'm not saying that church was one of them. It sounds like you are defending her actions. God would not tell a mother to take her child's life.
Moosepantspatty · 31-35, M
@LadyGrace no ma'am, I've never defended her and never will. Simply stated, her and her ilk were bad, in the name of God. The werent ill, they werent off, they werent crazy. They were devout and sound of mind.

That said, they werent representative of all people of faith, but we do not get to say that they were a cult, or ill, or false Christian's because they do reprehensible things. We must discover why their faith leads them to do monstrous things instead of brushing their behavior away as unchristian.
@Moosepantspatty So you're saying a healthy mind wants to kill their child. Not so. I don't care who it is.
@Moosepantspatty I understand that but I was not saying she was part of a cult or false Christian or anything else bad about her. I will just leave this.
