Do you consider atheism a religion? [Spirituality & Religion]

I was looking at this graph, and I was surprised to see atheism listed on the side. This graph represents the "educational attainment of U.S. religious groups." This post isn't about that specifically, although you're more than welcome to address it if you so wish. It is, however, an example of how atheism is often considered a religion. What are your thoughts?

Yes Atheism is a religion because to be an atheist must believe God does not exist..

Since no one has total situational awareness of all existence one cannot prove the non-existence of God..

Therefore the belief that God does not exist is based on Faith not on provable scientific observation and that make atheism a religion..

@Emosaur So when someone says i believe in the LORD Jesus Christ it is not a belief it is a conclusion??? naaa i don't think so..
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Emosaur My Christianity is based on a conclusion I came to when I realized that there is no way the universe could ever have formed itself. Impossible.

@hippyjoe1955 To me, the important point is that the universe doesn't have meaning, without a God. It would only be a self-processing machine.

@hippyjoe1955 Agreed..
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Adstar You evidentally do not understand what a religion is...
Egg01 · 56-60, F
@Adstar it's not a belief it's a rejection of the belief in a god or gods. The burden of proof lies with the person who makes the claim that a god or gods exist not the atheist who rejects that claim.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Egg01 Rejection of God is just as much a belief as belief in a God.
@Egg01 but there's no burden of proof on someone who says everything came from nothing?
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Quizzical Evidently you make one line statements without any supporting information / Arguments..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP There is a burden of proof on no one..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Egg01 There is no burden of proof on anyone.. But if one is to believe something without any solid undeniable scientifically observable proof then their belief is a by definiton from Faith and Faith is in the realm of religion.. So when an atheist declares there is no God it is based on Faith.. Thus Atheism is a religion..
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Adstar You should be used to dealing with not having any back up evidence or proof...
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Adstar So by that logic faith in my own ability is a religion too then? 🙄
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Quizzical As far as the existence of God or non- existence of God goes there is NO irrefutable proof of either position that the Theist or the Atheist can prove.. So therefore to demand proof from the Theist that God exists or from the Atheist that God does not exist is unreasonable and quite frankly impossible..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Quizzical I can prove my ability to type HELLO by performing the task.. So thus it is not a religous belief that i can type HELLO.. It is a demonstratable proven fact that i can type HELLO..
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Adstar But there have been approximately 18,000 gods throughout man's time on Earth. None of which has ever had any sliver of proof to back up their existence and they have faded into obscurity. It's a matter of reasoning that current gods and religions will end the same way, nothing to do with faith.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Adstar Hardly a test though is it... What about something that would prove to be difficult. Something that most think would be impossible. Something that you yourself have never done before. THEN you need to have faith in yourself, and if faith equals religion faith in oneself is a religion too... Going by what you stated.

@Emosaur The muslim god is not capable of creating anything. You need to learn how to read and understand what is written.

@Emosaur Nope. Not even close. Yahweh has Will, Thought and Presence. allah has only will. You are so ignorant you don't know you are ignorant. Too Funny!!!

@Emosaur They are not even close to being the same God. Get an imam to describe allah too you. Then get a Christian to describe Yahweh to you. They are completely different.
