Do you believe in divine intervention? [Spirituality & Religion]

You'd been in the middle of a very complex problem, glued to figuring a solution then voila! someone just approached you for the answer.
You're left with a gaping mouth but very relieved that it's suddenly solved.

No. If there's a god he's probably napping.

@Nobody37 why do you think so?

@1Dogma I don't have an answer for the mysteries of the universe, and I won't ever claim I do.. but the likelihood of a god, especially a god who cares and intervenes seems pretty farfetched to me. It seem like it stems from very narcissistic human needs.

@Nobody37 I've thought of that at some point. Yes, we all have our preferences.
@Nobody37 Hi. I was reading your comment and would like to ask you a question on it, if I may. I don't understand why you say believing in a God who intervenes and cares, seems like that stems from narcissistic human needs. Narcissistic behavior is very selfish behavior. The definition of narcissist is excessive preoccupation with or admiration of oneself, not someone else. And why would believing in or loving God, automatically be selfish or self-seeking, unless a person was just using God as a cosmic genie, but that doesn't describe everyone. The way you described it, it sounds like you think there's something wrong with people who believe in God.

God does care. When no one else could save my daughter, God stepped in and saved her from dying recently. When your child is dying, then God steps in, that's very real and hits home real quick! It was just amazing. A real miracle. I've witnessed other miracles, as well, and none of them were coincidental nor from delusion. I've seen some wonderful miracles. There was no shred of doubt that anyone but God saved these people. There was no other explanation at all. He's certainly not napping.

@LadyGrace My mistake, by putting those two sentences adjacent to one another, one would infer that narcissism is correlated to wanting to interfere or caring.. which clearly, the logic doesn't follow there. The two statements are not necessarily mutually exclusive, however. I want to clarify, that I do believe there are other reasons as to why humans made up the concept of a god, and other reasons as to why they believe in him. The narcissist bit is just the most obvious to me, and of course I'm talking about a very specific portrayal of god; the one that is found in Abrahamic religions. Arrogance, jealousy, possessiveness, are a few words that can be ascribed to that particular god.

I don't know what exactly happened with your daughter, but I hope she's safe and sound. My arguments were objective and general, I wouldn't attack you personally for holding the beliefs that you hold, and if it helps you in whatever capacity, then that's what truly matters.

Cheers. :)
@Nobody37 Thank you for your kind thoughts. I appeciate your even talking to me about this. I would like to examine what you said, further, if I may. I have not seen where God reflects arrogance, jealousy, possessiveness. Maybe as you have said, in other religions, but there are misunderstandings about Jesus. For example, the wars in the bible? Man caused those, from greed, not God. When there was a war, where God stepped in, it was only because He had promised to protect His people against evil, and He kept his promise, just like you would do everything in your power to protect your children.

Jesus, could not have been more loving, than to give his own life, that through His forgiveness of our sins, we may have eternal life. This does not portray someone who is jealous or arrogant. He suffered hanging by nails in his hands and feet onnthe cross, more than we could ever imagine. And since Jesus is perfect, he is without sin and so he cannot go against himself and he cannot even commit sin. Sin is not even in his character.
@Nobody37 Honey, I was not attacking you. I only wanted to discuss and see why you thought the things you do. I won't bother you again, if that is what you think, and apologize if I made you feel that way.
