What's the point of praying? [Spirituality & Religion]

For those of you who are religious...Religious views depict God as all-knowing, so what difference does it make if you pray? Wouldn't he already know what's going on?

This post isn't meant to bash religious people (my whole family is religious) , so I'm not looking for negative replies. Just wondering about the mindset behind this. This is something they didn't ever really seem to explain lol

I like your determination to find answers. The point of prayer is connection with God, not to ask for anything and everything.

For example, as a 5 yr. old, I guess all one can think to do, is to ask God for things, but adults are supposed to understand that prayer is communication with someone who loves us, not to be mistaken for, or used as a sky genie taking a wish list. God loves fellowship with us. Your mother loves you, right? While she knows you extremely well, and loves you, she prefers you still come to her if you need something. She takes great delight in providing your needs, not selfish wants. Same with our Father in heaven. He wants you to come to him and express your desires, however prayer is so much more than that. It shows God exactly where our interest and love is, for one thing. It is to thank God for what you have already received, all the ways He blesses us, and to ask God what you can do for HIM. It isn't about you. It is about God.
