@LadyGrace The Pledge did not even originally have "under God" in it. That was added later during the Cold War. Same with "in God we trust" on the money. Just another way the nation's secular past is often obscured.
I don't mind "under God" in the pledge myself. I'm just saying. It makes a difference because there was a specific reason it was added and it was political more than anything.

@SW-User I understand, however, that does not take away from the fact that it was still protested against and removed by critics who contended that a government-sanctioned endorsement of religion, violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
