What is the official stance on people born before Jesus? [Spirituality & Religion]

Is everybody born before jesus in hell or purgatory?

But you have to accept jesus as the son of god and personal savior to go to heaven.
How does that work for people who never heard of him?

Or do they get a free pass?
That doesn't seem just to the rest of us either
If the person has no choice they won't get punished for not believing in Jesus. Any other interpretation is faulty on its face.

All of humanity suffers the punishment that adam and eve brought upon themselves. No choice there.

How would you explain that fact using your logic?
1) Pain in childbirth isn't punishment. 2) Original sin is bullcrap.
